Making silence visible.
Lio Marchand (b. 1987, Montreal) is a painter and works-on-paper artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. His practice centers on quiet, observational compositions — interiors, figures at rest, and the slow geometry of daylight on a room.
Working primarily in oil on linen, ink on paper, and charcoal, he produces roughly thirty finished works a year — small in number, on purpose. Pieces sit for weeks between sessions; paintings are often revisited months after they're declared done.
Marchand holds an MFA from Yale School of Art (2020) and has exhibited in New York, Chicago, and Paris. He is represented by Galerie Kreo, NY. Commissions are accepted twice a year — spring and fall.

Tools of the practice
Oil on linen
Primary medium. Slow layering over weeks; a painting is never finished in one sitting.
Ink on paper
Rapid field studies and small finished pieces. Sumi and walnut ink; hot-press cotton rag.
Charcoal & graphite
Figure studies and tonal drawings. Vine and compressed; often left visible under oil passages.
Risograph
Limited edition prints — usually 40 to 100 copies — using a small studio press for test color work.
Marchand's paintings make silence visible — small decisions, accumulated, that give the room a weight you feel before you look.
